World Book Day

World Book Day 2023!

Thursday 2nd March!

What a brilliant day was had by all!

The children did themselves proud with their creativity and costumes! This year, we did something a little different and asked the children to come dressed as a word rather than a book character.  A huge thank you to the children and all of their families for the enthusiasm and effort that was put into their costumes!

We enjoyed an assembly where we learnt why words are so important and how they can inspire us to write, sing, communicate and show our true selves. We then had a vocabulary parade where the children had the chance to show off their costumes. The teachers will collect all of the words from the children and we will create our own English Martyr's dictionary to share with all.

We then announced our winners for the Extreme Reading competition and the winners were gifted a beautiful new book of their choice. The rest of the day was jam packed full of wonderful activities relating to all things reading, books, authors, poetry, words and songs.

We would just like to say, again, a massive thank you to the parents for their support in making this such a wonderful day!

Encouraging reading and having this at the heart of our curriculum relates to the UN Global Goals (GG), specifically GG 4 for quality education. Global Goal 4 is about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. As part of having quality education at English Martyrs’, we aim to provide our children with the best literature, as well as sharing teachers’ favourite literature, to open children’s eyes, minds and imagination to things they may not encounter otherwise.
