6B's Inspirational Women: Mary and Martha
Feast day: 29th July
Patron Saints of: cooks, spiritual studies and siblings.
Saints Mary and Martha shared a close bond with Jesus, through their faith, devotion and friendship with Him. Martha is often known as the hospitable servant as she had a desire to serve Jesus and make Him feel welcome. We should strive to serve others with love and devotion, but also ensure that we strike a balance and make time to be present with God.
Mary, however, is known as the listener and the disciple. Instead of spending time cooking for Jesus, she decided to stay with Him and listen to what He had to say. Mary's example teaches us the importance of setting aside time for spiritual nourishment and listening to the teachings of Christ. In the hustle and bustle of our lives, we must prioritise our relationship with God above all else.
Let us pray:
Pray for us that we might serve Jesus better. Help us to overcome our distractions and worries to listen to God's words and be present to Him this day.
