As a learning community centred in Christ, we walk hand in hand with God on our journey in faith.
World Book Day 2025
To kick start our celebrations, we enjoyed a visit from author and performer and Nick Toczek. He delivered a whole school assembly and performed a selection of his incredible poems (alongside a few magic tricks). Many pupils had a fantastic time at a creative workshop led by Nick, where they had a blast delving into the world of words. Parents had the opportunity to pre-order a book, which Nick then personalised and signed during his visit. Overall, it was a delightful experience that sparked creativity and excitement among the pupils.
World Book Day 2024
What a brilliant day was had by all!
The children did themselves proud with their creativity and costumes! This year, we did something a little different and asked the children to come dressed as a word rather than a book character. A huge thank you to the children and all of their families for the enthusiasm and effort that was put into their costumes!
We would just like to say, again, a massive thank you to the parents for their support in making this such a wonderful day!

Encouraging reading and having this at the heart of our curriculum relates to the UN Global Goals (GG), specifically GG 4 for quality education. Global Goal 4 is about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. As part of having quality education at English Martyrs’, we aim to provide our children with the best literature, as well as sharing teachers’ favourite literature, to open children’s eyes, minds and imagination to things they may not encounter otherwise.
