As a learning community centred in Christ, we walk hand in hand with God on our journey in faith.
Recently, our school took part in the Rudolph Run, a fun event that raised over £1000 for Birmingham Hospice. This event shows how we can help others and is important to our school values. By helping Birmingham Hospice, we are showing kindness to everyone, which is something we believe in. Our work together shows that we care about helping others, which is a big part of what we learn in school.
In our school we love reading. To grow our love of reading we: read everyday at story time as a class, currently we are reading Little Badman; every child has the opportunity to complete a page in our reading scrapbook; we complete a reading identity so we can see how we grow as a reader our the year; we also spend time each week reading any book we like from either the class library or our beautiful reading garden.
In English we learnt how to write a story based on a character flaw and learnt how to change the perspective of a story. We read the story 'The Boy who Cried Wolf' to support our learning.
In maths we are working on multiplication and division and applying our times-table knowledge to real life problems and to help use multiply and divide 3 digit numbers.
In science we learnt about sound. We did lots of investigations to find out: how sound travels, and how does distance affect the volume of the sound; what sound is, and can we see soundwaves; what is pitch and what affects the pitch on a guitar string. As we investigated with used computers to data-log our results and turned them into a bar chart on J2E.
In art we having been studying the work of Caravaggio, how he uses contrast to paint still life. We used his style to create our own still life of a plant.
In DT we looked at mechanical systems by creating our own slingshot cars, using lollipop sticks, wood, card and glue. We learnt how designers of cars must consider the cars purpose when designing to reduce or increase air resistance. Our designer that we researched was Sir William Lyons, who found Jaguar. Once we assembling our cars we tested them.
In PE we have learnt how to play cricket. Each week we have focused on a new skill, bowling, throwing, catching, fielding and batting.
In Geography we learnt how to use coordinates, and grid references using longitude and latitude to find places on a map. We also looked at our local area and how it has changed over time.
In History we have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. How they lived and took control of England. We linked our English learning as we wrote a setting description of an Anglo-Saxon settlement and a news report about the Battle of Hastings 1066.
In Computing we are looking at databases, how to sort and search them to find answers to questions. We also are creating our own database about animals to then interrogate We stared by creating a branch database, using similar rule to the game guess who as we will later use this skill in our science lessons.
