Due to the retirement of our current Head Teacher, the governing body, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Birmingham, seek to appoint a hardworking, inspirational and strategic Head Teacher to our forward-thinking school from September 2026.

English Martyrs’ is a vibrant beacon for the Christian faith situated in Sparkhill, Birmingham. The school has a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive ethos, ensuring everyone within its multi-faith community is valued and respected for who they are.

Our pupils are confident and articulate in living out our Mission Statement and are very proud of their school; they recognise that everyone is respected and valued as a creation of God. Our pupils have a deep sense of belonging and actively grow as members of God's family. 

We are seeking to appoint a Head Teacher who will be a practising Catholic, highly visible with our parish and our school community.  Someone who will work in partnership with our school governors who are passionate, experienced and wholeheartedly promote the school’s Catholic life and mission. Our new headteacher must embody Catholic leadership values and demonstrate exemplary commitment to caring for the community.

We are looking for a Head Teacher who:

  • Will ensure that the children at English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School have the best opportunity to realise their full potential through a broad and balanced challenging curriculum in a caring and supportive environment.
  • Is a practising Catholic Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher with a passion for pastoral care and has vision and commitment in driving forward the school’s distinctive Catholic ethos.
  • Has a proven track record of successful leadership, management and school improvement.
  • Provides expertise in primary practice and curriculum development.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills
  • Is resilient and able to respond and adapt effectively to changing circumstances maintaining high levels of performance.
  • Is organised and forward thinking, having the vision, drive and energy to initiate, lead and manage strategies to build on the current successes and achievements of the school.
  • Supports and challenges staff to continue to advance the high-quality teaching and learning of the school.
  • Will maintain our high standards of behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Be resolute in providing the conditions for an effective safeguarding culture across the school.
  • Will go the extra mile, bringing something additional to the school.
