On Thursday 3rd March 2022, English Martyrs’ celebrated World Book Day. The theme this year was to ‘You are a Reader!’, which each year group did in their very own way! Every year group- from Reception to Year 6- explored different genres and had a day packed full of exciting reading activities. We were able to showcase all the wonderful work our children created, which you can see in the year group folders below. Not forgetting all of the superb costumes both children and staff came in wearing!
Encouraging children to see themselves as readers is something we promote every single day at our school: from Reading for Pleasure at the end of the day, to Whole Class Reading and Accelerated Reader. We love reading and want to share that in every way we can- World Book Day was just one opportunity for us to do so. What really matters us to us at our school is that we continue sharing stories and listening to stories at home with our families through insatiable books: new and old; fiction and non-fiction; within our comfort zone and without, because that is how we will build our reading community.
Encouraging reading and having this at the heart of our curriculum relates to the UN Global Goals (GG), specifically GG 4 for quality education. Global Goal 4 is about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. As part of having quality education at English Martyrs’, we aim to provide our children with the best literature, as well as sharing teachers’ favourite literature, to open children’s eyes, minds and imagination to things they may not encounter otherwise.
Please take a look at what our children got up to during their day, as well as all the incredible costumes children and staff wore in celebration of their favourite books and characters!
